Reflecting on Priorities

Hey everyone, this is Allan. Today I was reflecting on my goals and priorities, remembering some lessons from a book I’m reading. The title is in Portuguese, but it translates to The Virtue of Order. What struck me is how priorities become visible through our actions. I don’t want to present a lesson or sound like I have all the answers; at most I have questions, questions about myself, about what I should do, and about what I’ve been doing.

Virtue of Order

One thing you need to know to understand me is that I am Catholic, and religion is something I take seriously. The book says the virtue of order means we should adjust ourselves to what God wants to give us, to the order we receive from Him, and to do that we need to set our priorities straight. When we talk about productivity, we often assume everything has the same weight, but that’s not true. Some things are more important than others.

Faith as Priority

For me, God and my faith are my number‑one priority. Yet my actions haven’t reflected that. I haven’t been praying as I should, and I could go to Mass several days a week. The biggest church in my city is only two blocks from my house, a five‑minute walk. The noon Mass lasts about thirty minutes, and I have that time most days. Instead, I waste it on social media, watching memes or scrolling Twitter. My actions are not showing my priorities.

Action vs Intent

I’ve been trying to fix many problems at once, but I’m not taking my top priority seriously. Realizing that mistake was a wake‑up call. I’m recording this for myself, it’s the most personal video I’ve made so far. I have a lot to improve.

That’s it for today.
