This is helping me to keep my habits
June 28, 2026
Watch on YouTubeHey everyone, this is Allan and in today’s video I’ll talk about what I’m doing to keep consistency in my habit of writing every day.
Daily Goals
I’m trying to write three pages each day. I’m not hitting three pages every day, but that’s the goal. I’m also trying to read 30 pages a day, or the equivalent of 30 pages, because sometimes I read texts that aren’t from books.
Adjusting the Habit
A few weeks ago I started missing those habits. So I set a minimum: read at least 10 pages a day and write at least one page a day. On days when I don’t feel like doing more, I’ll at least hit the minimum.
Dealing with Procrastination
I’m naturally a person who procrastinates a lot. I don’t want to call myself lazy because laziness feels like a sin to me, and I want to improve in that area. I know my nature leans toward procrastination, so I created the minimum to make it easier to start. If I think about reading all 30 pages, it feels harder to begin. Setting a minimum of 10 pages is much easier to achieve, and once I hit that easy habit, I get motivated to do more.
How It Works
Today, for example, I wasn’t feeling well in the morning, but I read 10 pages. Then I thought the text was really good, so I kept reading and ended up covering the equivalent of 30 pages from different sources. The technique works for me: when I can’t do something at all, I lower the bar to a doable minimum, which motivates me to keep going. In the end, I often read more than if I had only the 30‑page goal.
Writing follows the same pattern. It’s harder for me to write than to read, but after setting the minimum goal, it’s become a lot easier to get words on the page.
That’s basically what I wanted to share today. That’s it for today. See you in another video.
