I turned my own videos into flashcards
July 6, 2026
Watch on YouTubeHey everyone, this is Allan. I want to share something I built to study and improve my English speaking.
The App
It’s a web application that works like Anki but looks a bit cleaner and is more customizable. I created a deck from the transcriptions of all my videos and used AI to generate the cards based on the phrases I repeat most often.
Project Vision
This will become part of a project I’m launching with my girlfriend, who is a language teacher. Her English is far better than mine, so she will handle the teaching side while I handle development. We plan to co‑found the venture and focus it mainly on Brazilian Catholic people aged 18 to 30. I haven’t said much about the project yet, but I wanted to show you what I’ve built.
How It Works
The app is called “repeat issue,” a Latin phrase that roughly means “repetition is the mother of studies.” When I open a deck, the front of the card shows a phrase I used in a past video. Pressing space (or the play button) plays a synthetic voice for each word so I can practice pronunciation. I can replay the sound or reveal the answer. I use shortcuts: pressing 1 marks the card as wrong, pressing 2 marks it as right, and the interval between reviews adjusts automatically.
I also let AI generate questions for me. For example, the phrase “ask you questions” appeared on a card, and I confirmed it was correct. The AI sent the result to my email via a newsletter. Some cards had transcription errors, but I corrected them as I went.
Personal Progress
I’ve been working on improving every day. I started this project on the second day of the month and have been speaking more in each video and in self‑talk. The flashcard system gives me immediate feedback on what I need to improve. I even used the technique to learn a bit of German; although I stopped studying, I could start understanding without translating into Portuguese or English. Flashcards really work for me, and I’m excited to turn this tool into a product in the future.
That’s all I wanted to share today. See you in the next one.
