I focused all morning so I could watch the game.

Brazil Game

Hey everyone, this is Allan. Brazil won the match against Japan and I was cheering for Brazil because, as you know, I’m Brazilian, even though I’m recording in English. I used a little joke that I usually pull for World Cup games with Brazil, something Neymar did. And yes, I’m 100 % Jesus, so that’s not a joke.

Focus vs Multitasking

What I want to talk about today is the idea that focus is more important than ever. With AI we feel like we can run ten things at once, things that weren’t possible a few months or years ago. The push to do more and multitask is a trap. When we spread our focus across many tasks, our attention becomes thin. Instead of being focused on one thing at a time, we end up being less productive.

Morning Productivity

I planned this afternoon’s Brazil game for a week in advance; it was at 2 p.m. I decided to concentrate as much as possible in the morning so I could be more productive. I did one thing at a time, even had a meeting that lasted an hour and a half, and I produced a lot. Then I took a break to watch the game with my girlfriend and her family. I didn’t waste time because I had already been focused in the morning. Focusing on the one thing that really matters makes you more productive than trying to juggle many things that don’t move the needle.

When Focus Fails

There’s another problem that makes multitasking a trap. Last week I had some emergencies, and it’s not every day you can focus on one thing. I spent two days in a row unable to concentrate on a single task, and by the end of the day I was exhausted, just like on Friday when I didn’t even have Jiu‑Jitsu practice. My body and mind were drained, and at night I couldn’t concentrate on the topics I usually study.

Rest and Priorities

That’s why I think it’s a lot better to focus on one thing at a time. When you’re more focused on the most important tasks, you can still take breaks, relax, spend time with family, and go to church. I’ve stopped working a lot on Sundays because it’s the Lord’s day, a day to focus on what’s more important than making money. I’m trying to be more focused and productive during the rest of the week so I can reserve Sundays for family, faith, and rest.

That’s it for today. See you in another video.
