A boring Monday
Start a Series
Since yesterday I got inspired and decided to start recording videos daily, updating what I’ve been doing. I was especially motivated by the way Nick Saraev records his daily updates, answering YouTube comments and giving updates on what he has been doing. I think that’s a cool format, so I’m trying it now as “Walk and Talk.” It’s not original, but it works for me because I don’t write well when I stop to script, and I don’t feel inspired staying inside my bedroom. Today I felt the urge to leave home and walk a little, so I’ll talk for a few more minutes and see how it goes.
Llamas on the Street
I’m passing a house near where I live that has two llamas. That sounds ordinary, but in southern Brazil llamas are rare; they’re not native to this area. The people who live there actually own the llamas, which is something you don’t see in my city. I find the animals funny and different. It reminded me of the years I played Torchlight 2 and always chose a llama as my pet companion.
Tech vs Reality
My city has about 20,000 people and is a small, rural place. When I’m at my computer I see the latest AI advancements and a lot of content saying it’s the end of jobs, that I should fear missing out, and that I need to work as many hours as possible to make money. Yet when I leave my bedroom, the real world doesn’t care whether GPT‑Astra launched or not. I love working with technology, but sometimes I’m blinded by it and lose sight of reality. Walking lets me touch grass and see the world as it is.
Quiet Roads
While walking I realized I dislike the sounds of cars and barking dogs; I prefer quiet places where I can be with my own thoughts. Right now I’m on a road that rarely has traffic, and I’ll use a picture of it as the background for this video. Ahead is a building that might be a woodworking company, my brother worked there for a while. The road leads almost nowhere; at the end there’s a water‑treatment plant, and the area looks abandoned, with no one working there.
Gear and Safety
One thing I realized today is that I really dislike combing my hair before recording, so I bought a cap before leaving home. It should arrive tomorrow, and you’ll see me in a green cap in future videos. I’m using my phone as a camera because I don’t have a good one yet, and I plan to invest in a microphone and a more portable camera. Holding the phone feels unsafe; I’m a bit scared of being robbed because I’m poor and can’t afford a new phone if it’s stolen.
Weather and Mood
There’s a plum tree on my right with yellow plums, not the usual red ones you picture. I can see a similar tree behind my house from my office. It’s about 11 °C right now, a cold day that makes you think twice about leaving the bedroom. It looks like it could rain at any moment, and the chill air makes me hope I don’t get sick. Today is a holiday in Brazil, so my clients don’t expect anything from me, making this the most boring Monday I’ve had in a while. With nothing to do, I can enjoy the walk and should probably do it more often.
Why I Walk
I tend to spend a lot of time planning without actually doing, so it feels good to run around talking nonsense for a little while, just to do something without expecting much, simply for the sake of it. I like walking and talking to myself because I enjoy being alone with my thoughts; it helps me. I love staying at home, but it sometimes makes me anxious, so I need to get out for a bit.
